First video and my secret friend
In making my first video, I was nervous about two things. The unforgiving close-up shots of my hands, and recording narrative audio. It seemed necessary to narrate the projects. Both to connect with the viewer, and to offer tips that may otherwise go unnoticed. But I was struggling. Very few of us like the sound of our own voices, myself being no exception. I also really didn't want to sound stilted or unnatural, but that can be a big ask when the record button starts rolling. I desired a normal, conversational speaking voice. But talking alone to a dark electric stick in the middle of my desk felt anything but conversational. What could I do?
Meet my secret friend!
I thought perhaps if I could hold a phone to my ear while talking into the microphone, it would sound more conversational. Just like a casual chat with my mum or a friend. But hard surfaces are the enemy of good audio, and a slab of solid glass and metal held right to the microphone seemed like a bad idea. So, I dug out this 5 inch crochet octopus made by my good friend Claire. I held it close to my ear like a phone and tried some lines. It felt… surprisingly normal. And now I was only rerecording dialogue 3 times instead of 7 or 10!
Well, let me know how my squishy friend experiment worked! Here is my first video, all about how to craft miniature mushrooms:

This tiny cauliflower video
Who would have thought you could make tiny cauliflower using real cauliflower!? YouTube video by @CeciliaPMiniatures.
MINI MOVES: Coming up next!
Two more videos in progress!
My next two videos will dive into how to tie perfect tiny bows and explore how to make a miniature mobile library of books with a twist! I’ll be sure to share when these are ready for your viewing.

O’Keefe’s Working Hands
Okay, this isn’t a mini per say, BUT I used an entire container of this cream when filming my first video. It really works to keep hardworking hands healthy. Not sponsored by O’Keefe’s. I’m just a fan :)
Hope you have a wonderful week! See you next Monday :).
